Jalapeño

Jalapeño is a broad Mexican Capsicum annuum pepper type rather than one single fixed cultivar. Across the many jalapeño cultivars, pods can vary noticeably in heat, size, wall thickness, and ripe color, though most are harvested green for their bright, grassy flavor and moderate heat. Compared with serrano, jalapeños are usually broader, thicker-walled, and a bit milder, which helps explain their popularity in salsas, pickling, and everyday cooking.
